BAKE! Wood Fired Oven!

Hello Everyone,

We wanted to share the oven progress with you.  We've been working on the oven since the last weekend in April.  We had a series of 4 classes in May which 12 students came to learn about and help build the oven.  This past weekend we framed and poured the concrete cladding layer.  The oven is looking great.  We wanted to thank all the students who participated in the class.  There is a lot more work to be done and we'll give you updates on the progress and completion of the oven.  Here's a picture of what we've done so far.

I was walking through the BAKE classroom and saw the astounding wood-fired oven! Very cool, guys!

Here's the latest work that has been completed on the oven...  We have the contractors coming in on July 20th to do the connection for the flue.  We'll start curing the oven with small fires for 8 days after that...it's exciting!

Yesterday we had the connection to the oven installed and today we finished the chimney brick work...  Fired the oven for the first time...it was exciting!  We'll be firing the oven each day until Sunday.  Come on in and check it out!  Here's some pictures of the chimney connection and the first firing.  Notice how the smoke goes right up the chimney...it drafted perfectly.

I wish I still lived in AA so I could stop and see the oven this weekend.  Next time I am in town I will have to make a stop.  The more I look at the pictures the more I want to build one in my backyard, regardless of the lack of space.  Enjoy!
