Exploring the Joy of Cooking with John Becker and Megan Scott

Everyone has a particularly treasured cookbook that they cherish as their gateway into cooking. For many, that book is Joy of Cooking, the classic culinary tome by Irma S. Rombauer that’s now considered the most popular American cookbook. First published in 1931, Joy of Cooking was unlike any other book of its time—its pages are filled with spunk, wit, and fervor, making it more like an encouraging kitchen companion than a book.

Now, nearly 90 years after the book’s initial publishing, we’re thrilled to celebrate the release of its 2019 edition. We’ll be joined by John Becker (Irma’s great-grandson!) and Megan Scott (John’s wife) for an interview and a delicious meal straight from the pages of Joy of Cooking. Come hear John and Megan tell the story of revising and updating this American classic. While we listen, we’ll enjoy a sweet and savory spread of recipes now featured in the book: keftedes (Greek meatballs), shaved fennel and white bean salad, pumpkin seed brittle, and yogurt and honey panna cotta.

The talk is located at ZingTrain (across the parking lot from BAKE!) and will be followed by a book sale and signing.

Our classes (except for family classes & kids camps) are for adults 17 & up.
