Dinner Series: Southern United States

The Southern U.S. is home to a melting pot of cultures and culinary traditions featuring contributions of Indigenous and African peoples, without which we would not have corn, beans, and okra and culinary influences from France, Spain, and Britain.

Let’s celebrate these foodways with a meal meant to be shared! We’ll start with a deeply flavorful Cajun Gumbo, building a dark roux before adding chicken, andouille sausage, and our own Cajun spice blend. On the side, we’ll bake Zingerman’s Roadhouse's Spider Bread, a mash-up of New England and Southern-style cornbread with a swirl of heavy cream in the batter to give it a custardy finish. And for dessert, there’s the classic Southern Chocolate Chess Pie.

We hope you’ll find this meal as vibrant and soul-satisfying as we do!

We’ll end the class with a tasting.

You'll leave the BAKE! class with our recipes, the knowledge to recreate them at home, and the items you made in class.

Our classes (except kids camps) are for adults 17 & up.
