This hands-on class takes you all the way back to the origin of bread. Flatbreads have been around since humans first picked wheat off the stalk and decided to grind it and heat it. Together, we’ll make Whole Wheat Tortillas*, Za'atar Bread, and Freshly Milled Whole Grain Naan; and we’ll demonstrate how to make a proper Matzo. We'll teach you everything you need to know to make these versatile, full-flavored flatbreads.
You'll leave the BAKE! class with our recipes, the knowledge to recreate them at home, and all the flatbreads you made in class. You'll also go home with some great coupons.
In-Person: We'll end class with a tasting and you'll also leave with some great coupons.
* Please note, we use lard in the tortilla recipe, but if that doesn't work with your dietary needs, we can substitute butter. Just let us know ahead of time.

My Weigh Kitchen Scale
A scale is the perfect way to take the guesswork out of your measuring, but not all scales are created equal. The My Weigh KD-8000 is one of our favorites, and it's the same version of the scale our instructors use during BAKE! Classes. We like it because it weighs accurately down to 1 gram/0.05 oz, which means even small measurements will be precise. It also has a Baker's Math function that lets you calculate percentages of other ingredients in a recipe based on the total weight of your flour—a great way to figure out your dough's hydration, or to scale a recipe up or down!
The scale is battery-powered (but comes with an AC adapter if you'd rather have it plugged in) and has a weight capacity of up to 8000 grams/17.62 lb. It features a backlit LCD readout with a protective cover, and a removable platform for easy cleaning. The price includes ground shipping.
Flatbread Flour Kit
Use what we use in our Flatbreads Around the World class! This kit contains the specialty flours you'll need—1# of our freshly milled emmer flour and 2.5# of our True North flour—and 2 ounces of Za'atar, a Middle Eastern spice blend from Épices de Cru. (We've found these ingredients can sometimes be harder to find, you'll still need additional, more commonly, found ingredients for the class, like all-purpose flour.) The price includes ground shipping.
